On the morning of November 11, Chairwoman Kong Qingyun paid a visit to El-Sherbiny, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, for specific talks. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister Ismail, Gaber, Chairman of the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater (HCWW), and other Egyptian representatives, as well as Fenghai participants including General Manager Assistant Wu Kailong and members of the Egypt team of the New Energy Seawater Desalination Department. The discussions focused on the implementation of new energy seawater desalination projects and the development of localized industrial capacity, representing a deepening of China-Egypt cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative in areas related to people’s livelihoods and green development.

Minister El-Sherbiny warmly welcomed the delegation. He noted that Egypt faces a significant desalination demand gap and that new energy desalination has become a national priority. Localization of the desalination industry chain, he emphasized, is a key direction under Egypt’s 2050 desalination development plan, giving strategic significance to China–Egypt cooperation in new energy and water resources. He recognized Fenghai’s technological strength and global experience as a strong foundation for deeper collaboration, expressing hope for early implementation of joint projects to deliver tangible benefits to the Egyptian people.
During the meeting, Chairwoman Kong outlined the company’s long-term commitment to the new energy seawater desalination sector since its establishment, highlighting the comprehensive industrial chain it has built—from technology R&D and equipment manufacturing to project delivery and full-lifecycle operations. She elaborated on Fenghai’s core technological systems, including the “new energy microgrid + seawater desalination” model, brine resource utilization, new-energy-powered desalination-to-hydrogen solutions, as well as sewage treatment and water reuse technologies. She also shared successful applications of these technologies in several national-level projects and presented the findings of the company’s in-depth assessment of the Egyptian market. Aligning with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and its 2050 desalination development plan, Chairwoman Kong proposed a cooperation framework based on “technology adaptation + localized deployment + industrial-chain collaboration,” which was highly recognized by the Egyptian representatives.
Minister El-Sherbiny affirmed that the Egyptian government will provide comprehensive policy and resource support to Fenghai, facilitating technology deployment, industrial localization, and market operations, with the goal of building a flagship project for China–Egypt green cooperation.
