At present, the world's freshwater resources are increasingly scarce. The water shortage is particularly acute in the Sultanate of Oman, which is located in the tropical desert area with less rainfall in the world. The average annual rainfall in the country is about 130 mm. Most areas rely on qanat and wells to provide domestic water. People extract large amounts of groundwater resources, causing some coastal freshwater resources to begin to salinize, and water shortages are becoming increasingly serious.

Fenghai company undertook the seawater desalination project in the Sultanate of Oman funded by SGID with years of project experience and technical advantages. Through on-site investigation and research, Fenghai customized a set of containerized new energy seawater desalination equipment with a daily output of 200 tons for the AL KAHEL DP seawater desalination plant in Oman. The water production volume and water quality can meet the daily water needs of more than 1,000 people, greatly alleviating the local water shortage problem. This project uses Fenghai Company’s unique coupling technology that combines new energy and grid power to provide energy for seawater desalination equipment. It can not only make full use of local wind and solar resources, but also ensure stable operation of the system when wind and solar resources are insufficient, provide stable water supply for the local area, and make contributions to the rational utilization of resources.

Since the commencement of the project, Fenghai project team has made all efforts and overcome difficulties such as the short construction period in the early stage and the tight supply of parts and components caused by the epidemic with the assistance of all parties. In August 2022, a complete set of integrated equipment was shipped from Shanghai Port to Oman, and it took one and a half months to reach the project site. Thanks to the efforts of the Oman project team, the installation of the entire system has now been completed. In order to solve the local water shortage problem as soon as possible, the project team will focus on the equipment commissioning work in the next step to ensure that the water will be yielded on schedule.

The Oman project is another successful application of "smart micro-grid and new energy desalination technology" after the China-aid project in Maldives. This not only effectively promotes China’s seawater desalination technology to a new milestone on the international stage, but also laid a solid foundation for the expansion of overseas market for Fenghai. "It is time that must not be lost when it comes, and it is an opportunity that must not be missed when you meet." In the future, we will seize the opportunities of the times, accelerate the development and utilization of clean energy, promote the application and promotion of new energy desalination technology, and contribute to solving the freshwater resources shortage in the world.
